Identifying real gemstones can sometimes be challenging, especially if you are not an expert in the field. Fortunately, there are some easy ways to determine whether a stone is real or not.

RECOGNIZING GENUINE GEMSTONES

    • Weight: Real gemstones are much heavier compared to fakes, so consider the weight of the stone when you hold it in your hand.
    • Hardness: Gemstones are much harder compared to fakes. This means they are less prone to scratches or damage. Therefore, use a moissanite tester or hardness scale to test the hardness of the stone.
    • Transparency: Many fakes are not clear or see-through, while real gemstones are, so consider the transparency of the stone when looking at it.
    • Color: Some fakes have a suspiciously strong or unnatural color. However, genuine gemstones usually have a more subtle and natural color.
    • Sound: Gemstones make a clear sound when tapped on a hard surface, such as a table or granite countertop. Fake ones make a dull sound.
    • Inclusions: Real gemstones often have invisible irregularities (inclusions) or color differences that can be observed with the naked eye or under a magnifying glass, while this is not the case with fakes.

Of course, our tips are not 100% reliable. Some fakes are so well made that they are almost indistinguishable from real gemstones. If in doubt, you should consult a gemstone expert.

In general, it can be said that genuine gemstones are usually more expensive than fakes and are often accompanied by certificates guaranteeing the authenticity of the stone.

    GENUINE GEMSTONES WITH US

We only sell gemstone jewelry with genuine gemstones. Our gemstone jewelry is randomly tested for authenticity and we work with a regular producer.

We have deliberately decided against a certificate of authenticity per piece of jewelry because we mainly sell semi-precious stones and then the cost price of the piece of jewelry is too high. An official certificate of authenticity can only be officially issued by our producer, among others.
